Last Minute Holiday Wish List!!!!

Christmas is just around the corner so although this was going to be a wish list like my wonderful friend over at You Can Always Start Now has written, this has quickly turned into a last minute gifting ideas (either things that you can still pick up THIS WEEK or experiences), for even more ideas check out A Wandaful thing who has 10 Christmas wish list ideas on her list, read along and see if there is anything on your wish list too.

Yoga is a wonderful adventure all on its own but imagine doing yoga in the south of France with the magnificent Estelle if you are looking for something you can wrap up then her art is the perfect addition to anyone’s home, check out Estelle’s beautiful seasonal  offerings

Keeping with the wonderful women of Nova Scotia another item on my wish list is from Sara Kelly Designs she has the most stunning Mala beads, bracelets and jewelry, and of course if you are into giving experiences then this is the perfect idea, you can participate in one of her “make your own Mala” workshops, where you have the experience but also get to keep the most gorgeous, one of a kind Mala

If experiences are your thing then you will have to jump on this next item right away because the tickets that are still available are limited Neptune Theatre has their take of Cinderella as their Christmas show this year and the reviews are fantastic, already extended once and if those who want lots of tickets are hoping for maybe again.

Another show that is sure to please anyone on the waterfront in the summer is at Nova Scotia Crystal their 2018 ornament is sure to delight any receiver, just make sure that you hang it on a sturdy branch

If its a Nova Scotia flare that you are after but beautiful crystal is not the look you are going for check out all the local stores that you can pick up some East Coast Lifestyle I know there will be some of these under our Christmas tree this year

Sticking with the Nova Scotia flare if the 19+ year old on your list is a wine lover than this is the gift that keeps on giving, Lightfoot & Wolfville has their wine club open to those who live near and far from the beautiful valley

Stream of Consciousness Saturday

It’s that time of the week again! Thanks to Linda G Hill I can continue to have some wonderful prompts for writing! Thanks again my friend!!

This week’s prompt is “start with a noun” so for all of those who were not in Mrs Lamplugh’s grade 9 english class and didn’t have the pleasure of learning the grammar rap, nouns are, a person, place or thing.

I have not posted much about the actual prompts so here are the rules (just in case you want to get involved as well, my writing is below #SoCS

 

Here are the rules:

1. Your post must be stream of consciousness writing, meaning no editing, (typos can be fixed) and minimal planning on what you’re going to write.

2. Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be. One sentence – one thousand words. Fact, fiction, poetry – it doesn’t matter. Just let the words carry you along until you’re ready to stop.

3. There will be a prompt every week. I will post the prompt here on my blog on Friday, along with a reminder for you to join in. The prompt will be one random thing, but it will not be a subject. For instance, I will not say “Write about dogs”; the prompt will be more like, “Make your first sentence a question,” “Begin with the word ‘The’,” or simply a single word to get your started.

4. Ping back! It’s important, so that I and other people can come and read your post! For example, in your post you can write “This post is part of SoCS:” and then copy and paste the URL found in your address bar at the top of this post into yours.  Your link will show up in my comments for everyone to see. Home, the saying goes, you can’t go home again, I wholeheartedly disagree with this saying! Thank goodness my mom and dad do too, because I am living at home again (with my husband and 5 year old son I might add). We are building a new house (we will make it a home) and while we wait for the new one, the old one sold (quickly) so we are in my childhood home.

I grew up on a lake and LOVE swimming, and my son thankfully has taken to it as well, so we are hopefully going to get some sustained warm weather here so that we can take advantage of being on the beautiful lake where I spent so many hours of my young life.

If you saw yesterday’s post you will know that this is one of the reasons that I am finding some balance because I LOVE the water and just being closer to it brings me home

So there you have it, home, you can go back, do you agree?

Finding Balance…..

I took what I think is the first step to finding balance this summer. I have enrolled in Summer School!!! Not just any Summer School but the most amazing kind of summer school where you dig deep into your soul and discover things you didn’t even know were there.

You will think I am crazy for sure if you don’t enjoy this kind of thing but I took the leap and enrolled in Estelle Thomson’s SHE Quest Summer School it is outside my comfort zone and I am sure that I will fall behind when I get busy but that’s what FINDING balance is all about. Mucking through, figuring it out, finding what works and what doesn’t. Estelle said the thing that I have heard many occasions before, instead of saying “I don’t have time” change the voice in your head to say “it is not a priority”.iPhone June 103

This summer I have decided that I am a priority, so is my husband and my son and my family, but I wanted something that was just for me! And that is not selfish, the other saying I love is that you can’t fill someone else’s cup if your own is empty, so this summer I am filling my own cup. Living on the lake is helping that because I LOVE LOVE LOVE the water and being this close to it is already filling my cup even if I haven’t been able to swim in it yet.

Welcome back to Stream of Consciousness Saturday, my friend over at You Can Always Start Now introduced this and so far this is the one thread that has actually made it to my blog 🙂

As we build our new home we are living with my parents, they live on a beautiful lake (the lake I grew up on, the home I grew up in) and they have a beautiful wrap around deck, so there are many, many nights of BBQ. So it is safe to say that will are eating many many meals from the grill!

Currently we are grilling through the contents of the freezers, yes plural, my mom has a fridge with freezer, my Grammy (who lived with us for 20+ years until she passed away in March) has a fridge with a freezer, my parents have a large stand up deep freeze and we have a small chest deep freeze (and they are all FULL).

Thank goodness that the delicious grilling season is upon us! Drop a line below with your favourite grilling eats if you have any 🙂

Stream of Consciousness Saturday

Since “Finding Balance” is all a matter of your own making, I will be chatting about my journey to finding balance soon but for today I am participating in a new challenge.

This is Stream of Consciousness Saturday, my friend over at You Can Always Start Now introduced this to me as a way to get my writing moving! Thank you!!

We are building a new house and we have 3+ acres, not all super usable space but I am hoping that we will be able to have plenty of gardens, vegetable and flower. I want to feel like we are on the farm, without the animals (the mooing and clucking and coo-a-doodle-doing) and manure smell but with all the veggies to get us through the summer and into fall! I want to eat what I grow!

We have some family friends who DID actually both grow up on their own families farms (tobacco but that counts!) and they have a lovely garden every year so I will tap into their knowledge for sure!

Our adventure has just begun!

January

Well to say finding balance is going to be an easy task is to live in a world of rainbows and butterflies and I know this, but January kicked my ass!

Hello New Year’s Day….Hello sprained ankle! There went my goal of staying on track with my workouts starting from Day 1, I of course did try to stay on track with nutrition (and to say try is best).

Also in January, two ear infections, several fevers and vomiting, many walk-in clinic visits and an emergency trip for my 5 year old. And to top it off a gout flare up for my husband.

January hit us hard in the Nymark home.

Something that did help me find some balance though was a wonderful Christmas gift from my very thoughtful, knows-me-well husband. If you follow my friend over at http://www.youcanalwaysstartnow.com/ you will already be familiar with the Ready, Set, Happy! Calendar, A Daily Dose of Positive Journaling By Lisa Currie. If you are not following You Can Always Start Now, you should! She is wrapping up the daily prompts over on her blog where as I am planning to at the end of each month give the run down of the 5 to 10 that spoke most to me. So without ado:

  1. All the places I want to visit this year, was the very first prompt of the year, I kept things pretty tame and said:iPhone Henry 066
    1. Cape Breton – my husband’s family is all from there and last year we spent a week in this uncle’s bungalow so I’m hoping we get the chance to do that again!
    2. Moncton –  again last summer we went to Magic Mountain as a family and we are planning to do this again (hopefully this time with friends).
    3. Toronto – this one could be a stretch, we went last year for a wedding, as a couple (can you see a theme here I basically just want to repeat all the places we went last year) but I think it would be really fun to take a family trip to Toronto and do all of the fun things the city has to offer. Aquarium, Baseball game, the zoo, the parks and see friends!
    4. PEI – I went last year for a conference and I think it would be fun to go and play on the red sand beaches as a family (I am always trying to pass on my love of the water)
  2. Three things I’m thankful for today (January 5th) – Health, Time and Family. My Grammy was recently hospitalized (she is 92 so not surprising that she is having some health concerns) so this influenced what I was thankful for.
  3. These are a few of my favorite things (in a crossword puzzle!) January 8th- and since this is my own journey I used every language in my book – English,
    French, Spanish, Sanskrit, my journey my rules! IMG_8394
  4. January 22nd is getting two sections because I loved the front and the back of this day. My teammates: there are four spots (again I cheated- you will notice this trend) teammate jersey
    1. my husband and my son, this is my family team, for obvious reasons they are my teammates day in and day out.
    2. my best friend from my childhood, who I am proud to say is still my best friend today, we’ve been through the junior high dances and the high school proms, sleeping in the car in University and now working together as professionals, she is my teammate for life.
    3. my other best friend who came into my life as an adult, she is my best friend who helped my through the baby days, we had our babies together (she had 3 I have one) so I leaned on her for everything! Our kids are friends and we will be friends forever I am so thankful for the ability to still be able to make a best friend as an adult.
    4. Last but not least is my co-worker who without I would not even be on this blogging\journaling journey. We may only be “working” together for a year but I hope that our friendship will last much longer. And Please don’t get me wrong I could have filled an entire football team full of teammates, offense, defense AND special teams but there were only 4 jerseys so I shared those picks, I am thankful everyday for all of my teammates in every part of my life.

So there is a round-up of the 5 prompts that spoke to me the most, I might touch on others in months to come as I re-visit them but for now that is where we will leave January and all of its’ ups and downs. February is a new month full of new possibilities!!
